Tech support, the neighbor kind
The laptop is a brick and the assignment is due. Someone nearby might know the setting. They are not Information Technology Services, and they are not Apple.
What a neighbor can actually fix
A Wi-Fi toggle. A printer queue. An iPhone setting. A login screen that looks haunted. Meet in a public place — a union, a library, a coffee shop on Broadway — and look at the thing together. Chat is private. They might solve it in ten minutes. They might tell you it is a hardware problem and walk away. Both are honest outcomes.
Campus IT still exists
NDSU, MSUM, and Concordia run official technology help. Use those offices for accounts, campus systems, and anything that needs an employee. Help Me is community help. A helper’s current approval is identity evidence plus a staff decision, not a certification, not a background check, not a student-worker shift.
Do not hand over the keys to your life
Do not share passwords. Do not install remote-access tools for a stranger. Meet in public. Watch the screen. Report and block if it feels wrong. If the device is evidence in a crime or you are being scammed, that is official channels, not an app offer.
Questions people actually ask
Will a helper fix my laptop for money?
Help Me is not paid tech support. If you need a shop, use a shop. A neighbor might look at a setting with you.
Is this NDSU IT?
No. Campus technology offices remain official. This is community help.
Should I give them my password?
No. Sit together in public. Keep your logins. If they ask for remote control of your whole life, leave and report.

Campus Wi-Fi, when the network is a rumor
Cannot get on campus Wi-Fi at NDSU, MSUM, or Concordia? A neighbor might know the room that works. They are not campus IT.

Printing, which is always due in twelve minutes
The residence-hall printer failed and the paper is due. Ask a neighbor who knows the union queue. Not a copy shop, not campus IT.
