Emergencies: 911, then the right local desk
If you are in danger, threatened, injured, or watching a crime, call 911. Do not wait on an app offer.
Call 911
911 works in Fargo, West Fargo, and the rest of Cass County, North Dakota. 911 works in Moorhead, Dilworth, and the rest of Clay County, Minnesota. Stay on the line. Give a location a dispatcher can use — a building name, an intersection, a campus landmark.
- Life-threatening medical emergency: 911
- Fire: 911
- Crime in progress or immediate threat: 911
- Unsure but scared: 911 anyway. Dispatch would rather sort it than lose time.
Campus emergencies
Call 911, and call campus public safety if you can do it without delaying the first call. NDSU University Police publishes 701-231-8998. MSUM Public Safety publishes 218-477-2449. Concordia Public Safety publishes 218-299-3123. Search those office names to confirm before you need them.
Not an emergency, still official
The Red River Regional Dispatch Center publishes a metro non-emergency number, 701-451-7660, used in Fargo, Moorhead, and West Fargo for situations that need an officer and are not urgent. City police pages and 211 sit beside that. Help Me sits much further down the list: jump starts, walks, directions — never dispatch.
Questions people actually ask
Should I try Help Me first in an emergency?
No. Call 911 first. Help Me does not dispatch emergency services.
Does 911 work on both sides of the river?
Yes. City and county services after that do not automatically match.
