What Buy Nothing is
The Buy Nothing Project is a hyper-local gift economy: give, receive, lend, share, no selling. Fargo has neighborhood groups — including long-running Facebook groups such as Buy Nothing Fargo (North) — and there is a Buy Nothing app as another door. Membership is usually one group, adults in the boundary, personal profiles. The wealth is the stuff and the thanks.
What Help Me is
Help Me is not a gift feed. You do not list a slow cooker. You post a help request for an action: jump, walk, directions, study, tech, a heavy thing. Helpers are staff-reviewed to help, not to source free goods. Community posts are not a Buy Nothing replacement. Official events still come from campus and city calendars.
When to use which
Use Buy Nothing when the need is an item or a lend — a pan, a costume, a drill for an afternoon. Use Help Me when the need is a person showing up. Use Marketplace if you intend to sell. Meet in public for pickups either way. Neither group is 911, and neither is a youth program.
