Mutual aid networks do work that a matching app genuinely cannot, and pretending otherwise would be a disservice to both.
Short answer
Mutual aid networks are organized, ongoing efforts where community members meet each other’s material needs — food, rent, transportation, care — usually through sustained relationships and pooled resources. Help Me is a one-off matching tool for small everyday favors. It does not distribute resources, coordinate campaigns, or provide sustained support.
Different time horizons
Mutual aid works because people commit over time and know each other. An app match lasts one request and ends. That is a feature for a dead battery and a limitation for someone who needs rent help this month and next month.
What Help Me deliberately cannot do
No money moves through it. There is no fund, no distribution, and no organizational account. It cannot coordinate a group effort or run a campaign. Anything structural belongs to mutual aid groups, nonprofits, and county services.
Living alongside each other
Someone deep in a mutual aid network still gets a dead battery at eleven at night when nobody in that network is nearby. That is the gap this app fills, and it is a narrow one on purpose.

Can I organize a group effort through Help Me?
No. There are no group or organizational features. One person asks, one person accepts.
Can money be shared?
No. There is no payment layer of any kind in the app.
