Winter shelter — official beds, not an app pin

A Fargo night can kill. If someone needs to be inside, call 211 or 911. Do not send them to a stranger from a map.

Call 211 before you drive

Overflow sites, hours, and who they can take change with the weather and with staffing. FirstLink answers 211 here (701-235-7335 / myfirstlink.org). Say it is a cold-weather night and who is with you. If someone is already hypothermic or unresponsive, 911.

Year-round doors that still matter in January

These are public programs. Confirm tonight’s rules with them or with 211. Do not treat a website paragraph as a reserved bed.

Libraries, malls, and vestibules are not beds

West Acres and Fargo Public Library are public and heated during open hours. They are not overnight shelter. Security will close the building. Plan with 211 in daylight if you can.

Help Me stays out of this

No couch-surfing requests. No “can someone take a person in.” If you are a helper who wants to volunteer, call the shelters and 211 — they have real volunteer desks. The app is for jump starts and walks, not for housing a human through a blizzard.

Questions people actually ask

Does Fargo open extra winter-only sites?

Sometimes, and the list changes. That is why 211 is the first call instead of a static page.

Can I list my spare room on Help Me for winter?

No. Hosting a stranger overnight is not what this product is. Official shelters and coordinated entry exist for a reason.

Help Me is a community app for adults in Fargo–Moorhead. It is not a K–12 student program, not a youth chat, and not campus police.
